2027: SCDDD Warns Politicians Against Electoral Malpractices

[13/02/2026, 6:47:47 am] Toffa: As momentum builds ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD) has called on the federal government to take appropriate steps to ensure the conduct of a peaceful and credible elections.

The call was made by the executive director of the centre, Amb. Sani Bala during a press briefing with newsmen on the state of the nation.

In his address, Amb. Bala called on the independent national electoral commission (INEC), national security agents and the judiciary not to give in to any form of compromise and executive interference in the conduct of the elections.

He also stressed the need for all leaders of political parties and Nigerian eligible voters to guide against electoral malpractices which can consequently lead to voter apathy.

Bala further urged the federal government to reconstitute its National Peace committee which was modeled after the centre’s successful council of the wise to advocate for peace before, during and after the 2027 general elections.

Similarly, the Savannah Centre for Diplomacy, Democracy and Development (SCDDD) has stressed the need for the federal government to adopt a non kinetic approach in addressing the insecurity ravaging Nigeria.

The centre through it’s executive director, Amb. Sani Bala, expressed its displeasure over the impact of insecurity on the socioeconomic development of the country and the alarming penetration of non state actors across some states of the federation.

While urging the federal and state governments to follow through the establishment of regional security outfits and community policing, the centre charged the government to engage the national orientation agency and interreligious peace committee to carry out vigorous advocacy against insurgency, religious tolerance, banditry and terrorist activities.
