73 Immigration PROs Inducted into NIPR

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has inducted 73 of its Public Relations Officers into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) as part of efforts to strengthen strategic communication and professionalise public relations practice within the Service.

According to a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, the officers were inducted after successfully completing the NIPR Training and Certification Programme held at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja.

The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, represented by the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Visa and Residency, F.U. Nwanneka, charged the officers to uphold high professional standards, proactively manage public perception, counter misinformation and respond effectively to crises. She also urged them to strengthen public trust as the Service advances technology-driven reforms in migration management and border governance.

President and Chairman of Council of the NIPR, Dr Ike Neliaku, who formally inducted the officers, urged them to uphold ethics, professionalism and continuous learning as fundamental principles of public relations practice. Nandap also commended the Institute for collaborating with the NIS to deepen professional public relations practice within the Service.

Akinlabi, in his closing remarks, said the programme demonstrated the Comptroller-General’s commitment to capacity building and standardising public relations practice within the NIS. He urged the newly inducted officers to translate the knowledge gained into improved public engagement, adding that the Service would continue to pursue strategic partnerships and specialised training to strengthen the delivery of its migration management and border governance mandates.
