Anambra Police Detain Four Over Alleged Murder, Child Abuse

The Anambra State Police Command has taken four suspects into custody over separate cases involving alleged murder and child abuse, while commending residents for providing information that aided the investigations.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said one of the suspects, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, 33, is being investigated over the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend.

According to the police, the case came to light following information provided by concerned members of the public, leading to the suspect’s arrest. The State Criminal Investigation Department has since taken over the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure prosecution where necessary.

The case is linked to a reported incident in Nkpor involving the alleged exhumation of a corpse, which has attracted attention on social media.

In a separate incident, three suspects were arrested over the alleged abuse of a 10-year-old boy at Odume Layout, Isiowulu.

The suspects were identified as Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40; Chisom Chukwuyere, 30; and Arum Goodluck, 16.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the child sustained multiple injuries on different parts of his body. During interrogation, Chisom Chukwuyere allegedly confessed to using burning plastic to inflict burns on the victim.

The police said the child has received necessary care and support, while investigators continue to gather evidence for possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.

He also urged residents to continue providing useful information and report suspicious activities to the police and other security agencies.
