Anyigba Monarch Convenes Emergency Peace, Security Meeting Over Fatal Road Accidents Involving Okada Riders

By Toffa Momoh, Abuja

In response to growing concerns over a series of fatal road accidents involving Hausa commercial motorcyclists in Anyigba, the paramount traditional ruler, HRH Alhaji Abuh Shaibu Okolo — Ogohi Onu Anyigba Dọọọọọọọgá — convened an emergency Peace and Security Meeting today to address the disturbing trend.

The meeting was prompted by a recent tragic incident in which a Hausa Okada rider, allegedly driving recklessly, caused the death of a woman and her baby. Deeply saddened by the occurrence, the Ogohi Onu strongly condemned the act and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying for the repose of the victims’ souls.

HRH Dọọọọọọọgá emphasized the urgent need to curb the recklessness of some Okada riders and tasked relevant stakeholders to enforce stricter road safety protocols.

He directed the leadership of Okada riders, security agencies, and local vigilantes to monitor and regulate the activities of Hausa riders and other commercial motorcyclists within the community.

During the meeting, security heads and community leaders agreed on a set of safety guidelines, including a ban on reckless overtaking, a strong warning against drug abuse, and a call for riders to maintain decency in appearance and behavior.

As part of long-term preventive measures, the meeting resolved to initiate mandatory rider education programs. Okada riders will now be required to attend certified driving school training and obtain proper registration before being allowed to operate commercially in Anyigba.

The Ogohi Onu reiterated his dedication to fostering peaceful coexistence among all ethnic groups in Anyigba.

He noted that peace remains the foundation of the town’s growth and multicultural harmony — a principle he has consistently promoted.

The meeting was attended by top security and community leaders, including:

  • HRH Alhaji Abuh Shaibu Okolo, Ogohi Onu Anyigba Dọọọọọọọgá
  • Hon. Adaji Kabiru, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Dekina/Bassa
    Federal Constituency
