The crisis within the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has escalated, with party stakeholders petitioning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over alleged divisions, imposition of candidates and internal conflicts under Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq.

The concerns were raised in an open letter dated April 22, 2026 and signed by party members led by Hon. Toyin Olosasa, as well as a separate statement by concerned APC members, both calling for urgent intervention by the party’s national leadership ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the statements, several key figures who played major roles in the “Otoge” movement that brought the APC to power in Kwara have been sidelined, leading to growing dissatisfaction within the party. The stakeholders alleged that the governor’s leadership style has alienated party leaders and grassroots supporters, warning that the situation could undermine the APC’s electoral prospects in the state.

They also raised concerns over reported litigations and demolition of properties allegedly linked to party figures, describing such actions as contributing to tension and deepening divisions within the party structure.

In the open letter, the group further accused the governor of attempting to influence succession plans and candidate selection for the 2027 elections, a move they said has been resisted by members.

They alleged that security agencies and legal actions were being used against some party leaders, citing cases involving Ilyasu Moro and Mashood Mustapha, while also claiming that some political actors have faced restrictions in executing projects. The stakeholders expressed concern over rising insecurity in parts of the state and criticised what they described as the governor’s lack of visible response during some incidents.

They also pointed to recent political developments involving Bukola Saraki, warning that actions perceived as targeting opposition figures could generate sympathy and strengthen rival parties.

The group urged the President, Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC national leadership to intervene and foster reconciliation among aggrieved members.

They maintained that unity within the party remains critical to sustaining the gains of the Otoge movement and securing electoral success in 2027, warning that continued divisions could weaken the APC’s position in Kwara State.
