A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) NWC says President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on course to win a sweeping victory in the 2027 presidential election, urging potential challengers to abandon any plans to contest against him.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, Aare Durotolu Oyebode Bankole said any attempt to oppose the President at the polls would amount to “financial recklessness”, arguing that Mr Tinubu continues to enjoy rising public support driven by what he described as “unprecedented achievements” since taking office.

Bankole cited the 2023 presidential election results, in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr Tinubu winner with 8.79 million votes. His closest rivals, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, received 6.98 million and 6.1 million votes respectively.

He said that although the 2023 race was tightly contested, recent political developments suggested a broader national backing for the President. Bankole claimed that opinion polls indicated a significant rise in Mr Tinubu’s approval ratings, attributing the shift to reforms in agriculture, food security and economic management.

The APC official pointed to major infrastructure projects such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the Sokoto–Badagry Highway as examples of what he called transformative governance. He said the administration had also recorded improvements in foreign direct investment, oil production and government revenue.

Bankole listed initiatives including the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates housing programme, the Student Loan Scheme and government investments in tertiary education and renewable energy as measures designed to stimulate economic growth and broaden access to opportunities.

On the economy, he referenced recent GDP figures and policy decisions such as the removal of fuel subsidies, foreign exchange unification, the new national minimum wage of ₦70,000 and the roll-out of the Compressed Natural Gas initiative as steps he said were positioning the country for sustained recovery.

He dismissed criticism from opposition groups including the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties and the African Democratic Congress, describing their comments as politically driven and lacking credible alternatives.

Bankole said the President’s performance had “turned a narrow electoral victory into a broad-based mandate”, and urged Nigerians to rally behind Mr Tinubu ahead of the 2027 vote.
