President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains united and forward-looking, as party leaders gathered in Abuja for its 4th Elective National Convention.
Addressing delegates at Eagle Square, the president described the convention as a defining moment for both the party and Nigeria’s democracy, urging members to renew their commitment to shared ideals while safeguarding internal cohesion. He cautioned that unchecked personal ambition and divisions could undermine the party’s progress if not properly managed.
Mr Tinubu recalled the origins of the APC as a coalition of political interests that set aside differences to pursue national change, stressing that unity remains the party’s greatest strength. He defended his administration’s economic reforms, saying they were laying the groundwork for long-term growth, pointing to infrastructure development, tax reforms, and renewed investor confidence in the oil and gas sector. He acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly in power supply, but said efforts were underway to address them.

The president also reiterated his commitment to democratic principles, stating that the APC does not support a one-party system and welcomes credible opposition. He paid tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari and late party members for their contributions, while calling for greater inclusion of young people and women in leadership.
Chairman of the Convention Committee and former Katsina State governor, Aminu Bello Masari, told delegates that the party remained committed to unity, inclusiveness and good governance. He said efforts were ongoing to strengthen internal democratic processes andurged members to work collectively towards national development.
In his acceptance speech, the APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, described his re-election as a renewed mandate to serve with discipline, unity and purpose. He said the newly elected National Working Committee (NWC) would focus on strengthening party structures and fostering cohesion.

The convention confirmed key members of the party’s National Working Committee, including Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru as National Secretary, Benjamin Obi Nwoye as Deputy National Chairman (South), Ali Bukar Dalori, AbdulKarim Kana as Deputy National Secretary, and Felix Morka as National Publicity Secretary.
Other members of the NWC include the National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda; Deputy National Chairman (North); National Treasurer; NationalFinancial Secretary; National Organising Secretary; National Legal Adviser; National Auditor; National Women Leader; National Youth Leader; and National Welfare Secretary.
However, Three members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday night lost their re-election bids at the party’s 8th national convention in Abuja.

They are Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon. Emma Eneukwu; Deputy National Organising Secretary, Nze Chidi Duru; and Financial Secretary, Hon. Bashir Gumel.
The gathering drew top party figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, governors, lawmakers and stakeholders from across Nigeria. Observers say the emergence of the new leadership, following consultations and zoning arrangements, signals a renewed effort by the APC to consolidate unity and position itself ahead of future elections.
