APC Releases Revised Timetable for 2027 Elections, Adjusts Screening and Primaries

The All Progressives Congress has released a revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, with changes affecting screening, appeals and primary election dates.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by Felix Morka, the ruling party said the revised schedule was signed by its National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu.

The party said the adjustment was made in line with the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and the revised timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the 2027 polls.

According to the revised schedule, sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms began on April 25 and will close on May 2, while submission of completed forms is fixed for May 4. Screening of aspirants for various offices isexpected to hold between May 6 and May 9, followed by appeals.

Primary elections are scheduled to begin on May 15 with contests for the House of Representatives, while Senate, State House of Assembly, governorship and presidential primaries will follow, with the presidential primary fixed for May 23.

The revised timetable follows the earlier schedule released by the party last week, which set nomination fees for major offices. Under that earlier announcement, the presidential form was pegged at N100 million, made up of N30 million for Expression of Interest and N70 million for Nomination, while governorship aspirants are to pay N50 million.

Female aspirants, youths and persons living with disabilities were previously granted discounts on nomination fees as part of the party’s inclusion policy.

The new timetable signals intensified preparations by the APC ahead of the 2027 elections as parties begin internal processes to select candidates for what is expected to be a fiercely contested national poll.
