The All Progressives Congress (APC) says more than two million members have been digitally verified nationwide, just one week after the party launched its electronic membership registration exercise.

The National Secretary of the party, Senator Ajibola Basiru, disclosed the figures on Monday during a briefing at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja. The update followed a meeting involving the National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and state coordinators overseeing the exercise.

He explained that the exercise is being carried out on the directive of the party’s National Executive Council (NEC), which instructed that all APC members be digitally captured before the end of January 2026.

“The NEC is the second most important organ of the party, and I have been given the directive that before the end of January, we want all our members to be digitally registered,” he said.

Basiru added that the digital registration aims to strengthen the party’s internal organisation, improve operational efficiency and enhance data management — a key element in modern political administration.

He said the National Chairman had instructed state coordinators to accelerate the exercise and warned that sanctions could follow where performance was deemed unsatisfactory.

“Any states that are found lacking — we at the National Working Committee have been given the latitude to change the status of the state coordinators if they are not on hand,” he said. He added that the NWC also has the mandate to review progress on a state-by-state basis.

Providing an update, Basiru said the turnout had already surpassed initial expectations.
“As of today, just a week into the exercise, with many of the states yet to even start in full throttle, Nigerians who are registered to be members of APC are already in excess of two million members, who are digitally verified,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the number would increase rapidly.
“By next week, we should be in the region of about eight or nine million members by the grace of God,” he added.

Basiru urged party stakeholders across the federation to take the exercise seriously, calling it fundamental to building a stronger and more responsive party structure. He said the initiative was key to mobilising support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda.

During the question and answer session, Ajibola said in the remote areas where electricity and internet is not available, interested members will be captured manually and uploaded to the digital registration.

He also commended state-level party leaders for their efforts and said any challenges identified during the process were being addressed through ongoing engagements with relevant stakeholders.

The Lagos State APC Chairman and head of the APC State Chairmen Forum, Pastor Cornelius Odogabi, the forum’s secretary from Taraba State, as well as other party stalwarts were also in attendance.
