The Deputy National Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Benjamin Obi Nwoye, has urged founding members of the party to remain united and actively engaged as preparations gather pace for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking while receiving members of the G37 and other party stakeholders on a courtesy visit to the APC National Headquarters in Abuja, Nwoye said the party must reconnect with its grassroots supporters and mobilise members to sustain the reforms being implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He acknowledged the sacrifices made by the party’s founding members from its predecessor platforms, including the Action Congress of Nigeria, Action Congress, Alliance for Democracy, Congress for Progressive Change and All Nigeria Peoples Party, saying they should not be forgotten as the party continues to grow.
Nwoye said while not every loyal member had benefited from political appointments, the APC administration was delivering infrastructure and reforms that Nigerians could identify with, citing improvements on major federal roads across the South-East and South-South.
He called on party members not to become discouraged despite unmet expectations, stressing that President Tinubu values the contributions of long-serving loyalists and that discussions on members’ welfare would continue within the party.
The APC chieftain also urged members to resist distractions from opposition parties, saying the ruling party should remain focused on consolidating its achievements and securing Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
According to him, the APC’s strength lies in its diversity, with leaders drawn from different political traditions that merged to form the party, describing it as a “rainbow coalition” united by a common vision for national development.
Nwoye further appealed to party faithful to remain involved in political activities at all levels, warning that disengagement would create a vacuum that could weaken the party’s structures.
He thanked the visiting stakeholders for their continued support and described their sacrifices over the years as the foundation on which the APC was built.
