A group of women under the New Hope Women Network has presented a cheque of ₦2.6 million to support the return of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Women Leader, Dr Mary Alile-Adele, ahead of the party’s next convention.

During a courtesy visit to the office of the APC National Women Leader, the delegation — made up of representatives from Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, the Federal Capital Territory and members of the diaspora — said the presentation was a show of solidarity for what they described as her “purposeful leadership” and commitment to advancing women within the party.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Joyce Anjumza Ibrahim, founder of the Women and Children Care Foundation, said the women had collectively purchased the nomination form for Dr Alile-Adele to encourage her to seek re-election. She said the gesture reflected their confidence in the national women leader’s stewardship of the party’s women’s wing.

“We have gathered from the six geopolitical zones, the FCT and even from the diaspora to say that we want our Women Leader to return,” Ibrahim said. “We have seen the work she has been doing for women in the party and we believe her leadership should continue.”

According to her, members of the network travelled from different parts of the world — including the United States, Europe and Asia — to participate in the presentation and demonstrate support for the APC women’s leadership.

Another member of the delegation, Ambassador Bilkisu Umar said the group decided to contribute funds for the nominationform because they believed Dr Alile-Adele had demonstrated a model of leadership that focuses on policy advocacy and greater political inclusion for women.

“The era we are in now is not about symbolic gestures; it is about real leadership that can push policies for women,” she said. “Our Women Leader has shown that capacity and we believe that if she returns, women in the party will be even stronger.”

The visiting team said the cheque of ₦2.6 million was meant to enable Dr Alile-Adele to obtain the nomination form and continue in office as the APC prepares for its next leadership convention.

They described the move as a collective endorsement of her performance and a call for continuity in the party’s women’s leadership.
