The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports circulating on social media that gunmen attacked the residence of Bishop Matthew Kukah and a Catholic cathedral in north-west Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the claims—widely shared on Facebook—are “false and misleading”, with no such incident recorded in Sokoto State.

The military said Bishop Kukah, a prominent cleric and Bishop of the Sokoto Catholic Diocese, was carrying out his Easter activities without disruption, and that both his residence and the Sokoto Catholic Cathedral remained safe.
Authorities added that security agencieshad put measures in place to ensure a peaceful Easter period across the state, reiterating their commitment to protecting residents and maintaining stability in the region.
