The Nigerian Army has deployed a special forces battalion to Plateau State following a resurgence of bandit attacks in the region. The move, approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, is aimed at delivering what the military described as a decisive response to the growing security threats.
According to a statement signed by Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer for Operation Enduring Peace, the troops have already arrived in the state and are expected to “aggressively and decisively” confront armed groups responsible for recent violence.
The soldiers were received at the 3 Division Headquarters in Jos by the Chief of Staff, Operation Enduring Peace, Brigadier General Senlong Sule, who represented the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. Brig Gen Sule urged the personnel to conduct robust offensive operations and praised the Army leadership for providing the logistics and operational support required for the deployment.
The military also appealed to residents not to panic at the sight of increased troop movement and heavy equipment. Major General Oyinlola thanked the public for their continued cooperation and called for more actionable intelligence to support operations aimed at restoring peace in the state.
