The governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has praised President Bola Tinubu for providing the Nigerian Army with improved weapons and military equipment to help tackle the country’s growing security challenges.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the governor made the remarks on Thursday while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Makurdi.
Governor Alia said the acquisition of modern weapons and critical military equipment had strengthened the army’s ability to confront emerging security threats across Nigeria.

During the visit, the army chief assured the governor that the Nigerian Army was enhancing its operational capacity to deliver improved security outcomes in Benue State and other parts of the country. He said the procurement of modern combat equipment, made possible through the support of President Tinubu, would significantly boost the effectiveness of troops in tackling insecurity.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also commended the Benue State Government and residents for their resilience and continued support for security agencies despite ongoing challenges in parts of the state.

He specifically acknowledged the cooperation given to troops of Operation Whirl Stroke, noting that collaboration between the military and local communities had contributed to progress inongoing operations.
The army chief urged the state government and residents to maintain close cooperation with security agencies, stressing that strong collaboration between the armed forces, government authorities and the public was crucial to restoring lasting peace and stability.
Responding, Governor Alia described the visit as timely and reassuring, particularly at a time when intensified security efforts are needed. He praised the Nigerian Army for its commitment to protecting lives and property and welcomed the deployment of additional troops to strengthen operations in the state.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s support for the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as they continue efforts to curb criminal activities and restore peace across Benue State.
