The Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace, in partnership with Mrs. Onyekonwea Anna, has successfully carried out empowerment programmes for women and youths in Jiwa Community, Abuja, targeting skills acquisition and educational support aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and economic development.

The empowerment programme, held over the weekend with the theme “Peaceful Co-existence: Unity through Skills and Education Empowerment”, brought together beneficiaries of the Foundation’s training initiatives, community members, and resource persons who highlighted the role of skills and education in fostering unity, peace, and national growth.

Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Uche Okoronkwo emphasized that peaceful coexistence is essential for meaningful development while commending the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for investing in the training of women in Jiwa Community, noting that empowering women through skills and education enables them to contribute positively to the economy and promote social harmony.

“Education and skills are tools for promoting peace,” Okoronkwo said, urging women and youths to embrace skill acquisition and learning as pathways to national development.

He added that skills and education help individuals face challenges, build confidence, overcome ignorance, and create employment opportunities.

Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, the Personnel Officer, Rev. Sister Denisia Ijeoma Okonkwo, encouraged beneficiaries to effectively apply the skills they had acquired.

She stressed the importance of harmonious relationships within the community and reiterated the Foundation’s commitment to inclusiveness.

According to her, the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace does not discriminate in its programmes, as it serves both Christians and Muslims alike in the interest of humanity and calls on residents of Jiwa Community to uphold unity and peaceful coexistence.

In her remarks, the host of the programme, Mrs. Onyekonwea Anna, applauded the Foundation for the collaboration and urged community members to support one another in building a safe and inclusive environment.

“Together, we have taken significant steps toward a brighter future through skills training and education. The empowerment of our women and the support for our children are not just goals; they are the foundation upon which we can build a more harmonious Jiwa Community,” she said.

No fewer than 55 women participated in the training, while 10 youths benefited from the Foundation’s empowerment programme.
