The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has officially rebranded “Operation SAFE HAVEN” to Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP).
The announcement was made in Jos on Friday, during the flag-off ceremony for the new operation. The rebranding marks a strategic shift in Nigeria’s security approach in the North Central region, with an emphasis on sustainable peace and long-term stability in communities long affected by violence.

According to a statement signed by Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of JTF Operation ENDURING PEACE, General Musa praised Operation SAFE HAVEN’s role in tackling complex security threats, while stressing the need for a broader mandate and a more integrated security strategy.
He emphasized that JTF OPEP would focus on intelligence-driven operations, inter-agency collaboration, and strong community engagement. The CDS urged troops to adopt the new identity with discipline and renewed commitment, adding that the goal is not just temporary calm but peace that will endure for generations.

Major General Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and new Commander of JTF OPEP, described the rebranding as a strategic realignment to enhance the effectiveness of military operations. He called on all stakeholders—including traditional leaders, civil society groups, and youth organizations—to work closely with the task force.
Also speaking at the event, Chief of Defence Operations, Major General EV Onumajuru, noted that JTF OPEP would address gaps in the previous operations by improving early warning systems and extending security coverage to ungoverned spaces.

The event featured the inspection of a quarter guard, hoisting of the new flag, decoration of the new commander, and an address to troops.
