The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has been conferred with a Fellowship Award by the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) in recognition of his professional contributions and service.
The award was presented at a convocation ceremony held on April 15, 2026. Adeniyi described the honour as both personal and professional, noting that the institute instilled in him values of professionalism, discipline, and continuous self-development.

He said the recognition also reflects on the Nigeria Customs Service, adding that public service efforts are often observed and rewarded.
Adeniyi announced plans to support the institute with the establishment of a multimedia and resource centre to enhance students’ practical training. The proposed facility will include a radio station, editing and production suites, and integrated multimedia learning tools.

Chairman of the NIJ Governing Council, Olusegun Osoba, described the conferment as historic, noting that it was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and that Adeniyi is the first alumnus of the institute to receive the fellowship.
The Provost, Gbenga Adefaye, said the award reflects the institution’s core values of discipline, ethics, and intellectual development, adding that Adeniyi’s career demonstrates their impact beyond journalism.
