The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to human capital development, describing investment in education, research, innovation and technology as vital to strengthening national security and building a combat-ready force.
Shaibu gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving the Governing Council and Management Team of the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) during a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS described NAUB as a strategic national asset that is contributing to Nigeria’s defence architecture through specialised programmes in cybersecurity, cyber warfare, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
He commended the university’s plan to establish a Centre for Military Performance Management, noting that the initiative would boost defence research, institutional efficiency and strategic decision-making within the Nigerian Army.
Shaibu also assured the university of continued military support to address its operational and infrastructure needs. He approved an assessment for additional accommodation for military faculty and staff and disclosed plans to leverage the Army’s partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to construct a permanent Senate Building for the institution.
The Army Chief further pledged full support for the accreditation of the university’s academic programmes to strengthen its capacity for training and research.
Earlier, the Chancellor of the Nigerian Army University Biu, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, commended the COAS for his leadership and sustained support for the institution.
He also expressed appreciation for the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Award presented to him during the Nigerian Army Day Celebration 2026 and announced that the university would hold its combined graduation ceremony in October 2026.
