COAS Reaffirms Commitment to Troops’ Welfare at Eid-el-Kabir Luncheon in Nasarawa

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed that the welfare of officers and soldiers remains a top priority under his command philosophy, as troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) celebrated Eid-el-Kabir in Doma, Nasarawa State.

Represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, during the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir Luncheon held at Central Primary School, Doma, the COAS described the Islamic festival as a period for reflection on faith, sacrifice, obedience and dedication to duty.

He commended troops deployed in various operational theatres across the country for their courage, loyalty and resilience in thefight against terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft and other security threats.

Lieutenant General Shaibu said the Nigerian Army was intensifying efforts to improve personnel welfare through better accommodation, educational support for soldiers’ children, enhanced healthcare services and financial welfare packages. He assured troops that their sacrifices would continue to be matched with deliberate measures aimed at improving their wellbeing.

The army chief also expressed appreciation to President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continued support to the Nigerian Army and the Armed Forces.

Earlier, the Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, said the luncheon was organised to appreciate thecommitment and sacrifices of troops deployed across Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states.]

As part of the celebration, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Andoma of Doma, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu Oga Onawo, who pledged continued support for security agencies and offered prayers for lasting peace and security in the country.

The event featured cultural performances, sporting activities including a tug-of-war competition, refreshments, group photographs and a vote of thanks delivered by the Commander, Sector 2 OPWS, Brigadier General David Nwakonobi.
