COAS urges sustained rigorous training at military engineering school

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME) to maintain rigorous, mission-oriented training to strengthen the combat effectiveness of military engineers supporting operations across the country.

In a statement signed by Lieutenant Nkuma Mba, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at NASME, the army chief gave the directive during his maiden operational visit to the headquarters of the school in Makurdi on Wednesday.

Lt Gen Shaibu said the institution plays a strategic role in developing the technical expertise and operational capability required to meet the demands of modern warfare. He stressed that the school must continue to produce highly skilled engineers capable of providing effective combat support in different theatres of operation.

He noted that NASME remains a key pillar in generating the specialised manpower needed for engineering tasks across Nigerian Army formations and units. According to him, training programmes must remain realistic, practical and aligned with evolving operational challenges to ensure quality output and improved battlefield performance.

The army chief also reaffirmed his commitment to improving the welfare and living conditions of personnel in NASME Barracks, saying better accommodation and welfare would help boost morale and operational efficiency.

Earlier, the Commandant of NASME, Major General Idongesit Essien Ekpenyong, thanked the army chief for his continued support to the institution. He briefed Lt Gen Shaibu on ongoing trainingactivities, operational responsibilities and infrastructure and welfare challenges within the barracks.

The visit featured an operational briefing, presentation of a commemorative memento and group photographs.
