The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of its personnel, describing it as essential to boosting morale and sustaining operational effectiveness.
Addressing officers and soldiers of 18 Brigade during a visit to Latini Barracks in Bida, Niger State, the COAS said the welfare of troops and their families remained a top priority under his leadership. He commended the Brigade for its dedication and contribution to maintaining relative peace within its area of responsibility.
According to a statement signed by Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele,
Lt Gen Shaibu urged the troops to remain focused and resilient in ongoing operations against bandits and terrorists, stressing that continued pressure on criminal elements was vital to restoring public confidence and improving security across the region.

He also disclosed plans to construct additional accommodation facilities and establish skills acquisition centres within the barracks, aimed at enhancing the well-being and economic empowerment of personnel and their families.
The visit forms part of the COAS’ operational tour of Army formations to assess needs, address challenges, and motivate troops on the frontlines.
The Nigerian Army will continue to pursue reforms and provide necessary support to strengthen operational readiness across all formations.
