A Commanding Officer and six soldiers of Operation Hadin Kai have been killed after an improvised explosive device (IED) struck their vehicle following a failed terrorist attack on a military position in Monguno, Borno State. The troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force (North East), had earlier repelled what was described as an isolated infiltration attempt by suspected insurgents on “Charlie 13” location late on 12 April 2026, forcing the attackers to retreat after a gun battle.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer at Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, the officer was said to have died alongside six other personnel while moving to assess the situation after the attack, when their vehicle hit an IED. The military said the fallen officer demonstrated exceptional leadership and bravery, noting that his decision to personally visit thefrontline reflected “courage, selfless service, and leading from the front.”
The statement added that troops retained control of the location after the engagement, with no further incursion reported. It described the attack as isolated and confirmed that the terrorists had been successfully repelled during the initial exchange of fire.
Operation Hadin Kai said it was mourning the loss of the officer and the six soldiers, describing them as gallant personnel who paid the supreme price in service to the nation. It added that their sacrifice would remain a lasting symbol of dedication and commitment within the Armed Forces.
