Customs, American Business Council Strengthen Trade Partnership

The Nigeria Customs Service and the American Business Council have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade relations and addressing challenges affecting business operations in Nigeria.

The resolution was reached during a quarterly meeting held at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Abuja, where both parties discussed ways to improve trade facilitation, enhance security and deepen economic ties between Nigeria and the United States.

Speaking at the meeting, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, said the Service would institutionalise regular engagements with stakeholders to promote collaboration and improve service delivery.

He also highlighted ongoing trade facilitation reforms, including the Advance Ruling System, the Authorised Economic Operator Programme, Post Clearance Audit, the B’Odogwu platform, and improvements in cargo scanning and clearance processes.

Representatives of the American Business Council commended the Customs Service for its reform initiatives and called for faster resolution of challenges affecting business operations.

President of the American Business Council, Nneka Enwereji, described the engagement as productive and praised the Customs leadership for its efforts to improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by both organisations to strengthen public-private sector collaboration and boost trade and investment between Nigeria and the United States.
