Customs Intercepts ₦809.7m Expired Vapes, Records ₦19.4bn June Revenue

The Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command, has intercepted expired disposable vape products valued at more than ₦809 million, as the Command recorded ₦19.4 billion in revenue for June 2026.

According to the statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs VU Ogagbor, the Acting Customs Area Controller, Deputy Comptroller Bolaji Lukman Adigun, disclosed the figures during a media briefing at the Command on Thursday.

Adigun said the ₦19.4 billion generated in June represents a 35 percent increase over the ₦14.36 billion collected in the corresponding period of 2025. He attributed the increase to improved stakeholder compliance, enhanced trade facilitation, intelligence-driven strategies and the commitment of officers and personnel of the Command.

On enforcement, the Acting Area Controller said officers intercepted a 40-foot container with number TIIU4739360 during a physical examination of cargo. The container was found to contain expired disposable vape products with a Duty Paid Value of ₦809.7 million.

He said further examination revealed 484 cartons containing a total of 182,340 pieces of disposable vapes, with expiry dates ranging from 2022 to 2026. According to him, the products were considered unfit for use and could pose a risk to public health.

Adigun said arrangements had commenced to hand over the seized products to the appropriate government agency for further regulatory action and proper disposal.

He urged importers and licensed customs agents to comply with import regulations and take advantage of the Nigeria Customs Service’s Authorised Economic Operator Programme and Advance Ruling system to improve compliance and facilitate legitimate trade.

The Acting Area Controller assured that the Command would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, risk management and cargo examination to prevent expired, prohibited, falsely declared and other non-compliant goods from entering the Nigerian market
