The Customs Officers’ Wives Association has launched a nationwide tree planting campaign with a target of planting 1,000 trees within one hour across several locations in Nigeria on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
The initiative, tagged under the COWA Green Borders sustainability drive, is aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, community participation and climate action through coordinated tree planting exercises nationwide.

According to the association, volunteers, stakeholders, community members and environmental advocates were mobilised to designated planting points across participating states to carry out simultaneous planting activities between 7am and 8am.
National President of the association, KikelomoAdeniyi, said the campaign was a call for collective action to tackle environmental challenges such as deforestation, climate change and land degradation.

She said the exercise was not only about planting trees but also about restoring the environment, creating awareness and building a culture of responsibility among citizens, especially younger generations.
She added that the campaign would go beyond a one-day event and develop into a long-term movement for ecological advocacy and community participation across Nigeria.
