As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Easter, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has assured citizens of enhanced security across the country, backed by ongoing collaboration with the United States military.
The assurance was given in a statement by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Micheal Onoja, during a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja.
He said troops have been placed on high alert nationwide to prevent any security breach during the festive period, noting that such proactive measures are routinely adopted during major celebrations.
Onoja emphasised that security agencies would remain vigilant throughout the Easter period, as criminal elements often attempt to exploit festivities.
He added that the military would not relent in its efforts to safeguard lives and property, expressing confidence that the situation would remain under control.

Speaking on foreign support, Onoja disclosed that the collaboration with U.S. troops—who arrived in the country on February 15, 2025—was focused on intelligence sharing and operational training to strengthen the capacity of Nigerian forces.
He noted that while insecurity has persisted in some parts of the country, the impact of the partnership may not be immediate due to the nature of military operations.
According to him, some details of the cooperation remain confidential because of the sensitivity of ongoing operations, but assured that the supportwould soon yield tangible results.
Onoja expressed optimism that Nigerians would begin to see noticeable improvements in security in the coming weeks, stressing that the U.S. assistance was timely and critical to ongoing efforts to curb insecurity.
He urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring that the armed forces remain committed to ensuring a safe and peaceful Easter celebration.
