EFCC Chairman Olukoyede Urges Media to Uphold Ethical Standards in Anti-Corruption Reporting

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has called on the media to uphold editorial integrity and constructive reportage in the fight against corruption, economic, and financial crimes.

He made this appeal at the “VON Forum 2025” event in Abuja, organized by the Voice of Nigeria in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.

Olukoyede expressed disappointment at the media’s handling of a recent case involving the arrest of a politically exposed person accused of embezzling $35 million meant for a refinery project.

He lamented that some reports framed the arrest as “EFCC Witch-hunts Opposition,” without examining the facts behind the arrest.

The EFCC chairman emphasized that the anti-corruption fight is non-partisan and yielding results, citing the recovery of assets, including the building occupied by Voice of Nigeria, which was seized from a former government official. He urged Nigerians, especially the media, to support the anti-corruption efforts and maintain responsible reporting standards.

Olukoyede also highlighted the EFCC’s efforts to combat terrorist financing, announcing the establishment of the Network of National Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA), which he chairs. The network aims to drive anti-corruption efforts in the sub-region and collaborate with ECOWAS to stabilize the region.

The event was attended by various stakeholders, including the Director General/CEO of Voice of Nigeria, Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, who appreciated Olukoyede for his commitment to the anti-corruption fight and Nigeria’s role in promoting regional stability.
