The FCT Police Command has confirmed a building collapse incident in Jikwoyi Phase 1 of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to a press statement signed on Friday by the Spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, ASP Josephine Adeh, the three-storey building, which was under construction, collapsed at approximately 9:00 AM on April 3rd, 2026.

Upon receiving the distress call, Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, mobilized a rescue team to the scene, and a coordinated rescue operation was launched with support from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross, the Federal Fire Service, and other relevant authorities.
Preliminary investigations indicate that 17 workers were on site at the time of the collapse. Eight victims have been rescued and are receiving medical attention at Sisters of the Nativity Hospital, Jikwoyi, while nine others escaped unhurt. Rescue operations are ongoing to locate and extract any other trapped victims.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the collapse and ensure accountability. All individuals and authorities responsible for the approval, issuance, and inspection of the construction site will be questioned.
