The Federal Government has appointed Fuji music legend, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, as an aviation security ambassador following his recent airport incident.
In a statement issued by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reduced KWAM 1’s flight ban to one month. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will work with the music star to promote proper airport security protocols.
The minister also revealed that the NCAA will withdraw its criminal complaints against the singer, citing his public show of penitence.
Similarly, Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba of ValueJet, whose licenses were suspended, will have them restored after serving a one-month ban and undergoing mandatory professional re-appraisal. Details of the re-appraisal will be released by the NCAA.
Keyamo further directed relevant aviation agencies, alongside complementary bodies, to hold a retreat next week aimed at retraining security personnel on managing disruptive passengers and de-escalating tense situations. The event will be open to the press. Airlines will also hold a separate session to address staff conduct towards passengers.
He stressed that the government’s decisions were made on compassionate grounds and not due to political or sentimental pressures, adding that safety and security in the aviation sector remain paramount.
