The General Officer Commanding Nigeria’s 7 Division, Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, has pledged deeper cooperation with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to strengthen operations and fulfil both organisations’ mandates in the North-East.
In a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Haruna Mohammed Sani, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Unachukwu gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Borno/Yobe Zonal Controller of Customs, Muhammed Idris, to the Division’s headquarters at Maimalari Cantonment on 20 January.

Brigadier General Unachukwu noted that the Army and the Customs Service have maintained a long-standing, interdependent relationship critical to national security and stability. He said the NCS plays a vital revenue-generating role for the country and often relies on military support to carry out its duties effectively, particularly in the North-East where security challenges persist.
Earlier, Controller Idris said his visit was aimed at appreciating the support already provided by the Division while seeking additional collaboration. He explained that most Customs operations in the region take place along border communities—many of which have been affected by insurgent activity—making sustained cooperation with the Army essential.
The visit featured strategic discussions, exchange of souvenirs, signing of the visitor’s book and a group photograph.
