Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has received a detailed operational briefing as part of a visit to reinforce security efforts in Sokoto State.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, the GOC was briefed by the Commanding Officer of 26 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Nasiru Mustapha, on arrival at the Forward Operating Base in Isa. The briefing provided an assessment of ongoing operations and the current security situation in the area.

Following the briefing, Major General Koughna proceeded to Tidibale community in Isa Local Government Area, where residents recently returned after threats from bandit groups. The Army said the visit formed part of the GOC’s initial field assessment since assuming office.
Addressing the community, General Koughna reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and restoring normalcy. He said troops had been stationed in Tidibale to maintain a strong security presence and ensure residents could resume daily activities, especially farming, without fear. He assured locals that no part of the community would be left under the control of armed groups.

The GOC also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, stressing that cooperation between the military and communities was vital to achieving lasting peace.
The Sarkin Arewa, Alhaji Ibrahim, who spoke on behalf of the community, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as timely and reassuring. He said the renewed engagement by the Army had restored residents’ confidence and strengthened their hope for lasting stability.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding communities and working with local stakeholders to enhance security across the North-West.
