Information Minister Urges Unity in Printing Sector for Growth, Global Competitiveness

ABUJA — The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called on stakeholders in Nigeria’s printing industry to prioritize unity, reconciliation, and collaboration to drive sustainable growth and improve the sector’s global competitiveness.

Idris made the call on Tuesday at the Nigeria Print Industry Stakeholders’ Summit 2026, with the theme “From Resolution to Renaissance,” held at the Nikon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.

The Minister said the recent settlement of the leadership crisis within the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria, CIPPON, offers a critical window to reposition the profession and harness its economic potential.

“History has given you an opportunity to reposition this industry. Please seize it, work together, and let everyone support the leadership so that collectively you can move the profession forward,” Idris stated.

Speaking extemporaneously, the Minister recalled that one of the first petitions brought to him on assuming office was the prolonged dispute within CIPPON. He said his intervention was guided by the belief that dialogue and cooperation would yield better results for the industry than protracted litigation.

Idris described the printing sector as economically significant with strong employment potential. He noted that a united front among practitioners would make it easier for government to provide targeted support and policy interventions.

He pledged the Federal Government’s continued backing for the Institute and promised to engage relevant agencies to advance initiatives that will raise professional standards, improve the operating environment, and increase the industry’s contribution to national development.

The Minister also charged the new leadership of CIPPON to adopt an inclusive approach and bring all stakeholders on board, regardless of past differences. According to him, inclusive leadership is key to sustaining peace and building a profession that will endure for future generations.

Idris further reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting CIPPON’s drive for a more innovative and globally competitive printing industry, and urged practitioners to adopt new technologies to remain relevant in a fast-evolving digital economy.

Earlier in his remarks, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council of CIPPON, Mr. Koko T. Clement, said the Institute had made notable progress since the current council was inaugurated in December 2025.

He cited ongoing engagements with government agencies to strengthen professional standards, improve regulation, and promote policies that support the growth of Nigeria’s printing and packaging industry.

“Everything we do is for the growth of this Institute, for the benefit of every printer, every packaging professional, and every Nigerian who depends on this industry. We call on all stakeholders to work together in peace and mutual understanding so that what unites us remains greater than whatever may divide us,” Clement said.

Dignitaries at the summit included CIPPON Registrar, Mallam Abubakar Ndagi; Chief Executive Officer of KA2 Press Limited, Engr. Michael Akinola; Managing Director of KA2 Press Limited, Mr. Ademola Kasumu; senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation; and other key players in the printing and packaging sector.
