Joint Air-Ground Operation Repels ISWAP Assault in North-East

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have repelled coordinated attacks by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on military positions in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to a statement signed by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, the attacks occurred in the early hours of June 19 at troops’ locations in Dusten Kura and Chara Road within the Buratai axis.

The military said the terrorists launched multiple assaults on the positions but were met with a swift response from troops who, aided by intelligence support, engaged the attackers with superior firepower.

The operation was reinforced by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, which deployed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance assets as well as precision air strikes to support ground troops.

The coordinated air and ground counter-offensive disrupted the attack, inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists and forced them to retreat from the area.

The military said no casualties were recorded among troops during the encounter, while the terrorists suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment.

Operation HADIN KAI described the successful defence of the positions as a reflection of the high level of preparedness of troops and the effective synergy between the land and air components of the operation.

The theatre command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against insurgents and denying terrorist groups freedom of action across the North-East region.

It also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
