Marafa, Supporters Defect to NDC as Party Welcomes Ex-Zamfara Senator

ABUJA – The National Democratic Congress, NDC, on Tuesday formally received former Zamfara Central Senator, Kabir Marafa, into its fold, describing his defection as a major boost for the party.

Marafa, a former member of the National Assembly and leading political figure in Zamfara State, joined the party alongside his supporters and political associates.

He was received in Abuja by NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, in the presence of the National Chairman and members of the National Working Committee.

The party said Marafa’s decision marks a significant milestone in its growth and national acceptance, reflecting growing confidence in the NDC as a credible, people-oriented platform committed to service, inclusion, and national renewal.

The NDC described Marafa as a seasoned legislator and grassroots mobiliser whose experience and leadership will strengthen the party’s presence in Zamfara and the wider North-West region.

According to the party, Marafa has been entrusted with leading its structure in Zamfara and advancing its vision in the state, particularly in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development.

The NDC said Marafa’s defection underscores the need for a stable political platform at a time when many parties are facing internal disputes and legal uncertainties. It described itself as a crisis-free party without litigation or factionalisation, and fully prepared to provide Nigerians with a clear alternative ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, fairness, and equal opportunity for all members. It urged Nigerians, especially the people of Zamfara State, to join the movement to prioritise service, security, and inclusive governance.

The NDC also reminded prospective members, aspirants, and stakeholders to complete their registration within the stipulated timeframe ahead of its upcoming congresses and primary elections scheduled in the coming weeks.

It called on party members nationwide to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly as it continues to harmonise structures and expand across the country.

The party expressed appreciation to Marafa and his supporters for their trust in its vision.
