The Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), on Wednesday joined senior government officials, lawmakers, academics and other distinguished Nigerians at the public presentation of a new book by renowned scholar and former Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Professor Ladi Hamalai.

The book, titled “A Collection of Essays: Readings on the Legislature,” was formally unveiled at the National Assembly Library in Abuja, with Marwa serving as the Special Guest of Honour at the event.

The ceremony attracted prominent personalities from the legislative, academic and public sectors, who gathered to celebrate Professor Hamalai’s contributions to legislative studies, democratic governance and public policy development in Nigeria.

Professor Hamalai, an accomplished political scientist and recipient of the national honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR), is widely recognised for her pioneering role in strengthening legislative capacity and democratic institutions in the country. She served as the pioneer Director-General of NILDS from 2011 to 2019 and has authored several publications on governance, elections and parliamentary development.

Speaking at the event, participants highlighted the importance of legislative scholarship in deepening democratic governance and strengthening the capacity of lawmakers and public institutions. They noted that the collection of essays provides valuable insights into the workings of the legislature and its role in promoting accountability, representation and effective governance.

Marwa, alongside other dignitaries, commended the author for her enduring contributions to national development through research, policy engagement and intellectual leadership. They described the publication as a significant addition to Nigeria’s growing body of literature on legislative practice and democratic governance.

The presentation, held at the National Assembly Library, also underscored the institution’s role as a centre for legislative research, knowledge sharing and policy discourse in support of Nigeria’s democratic development.
