Military Commends Ezeagu Traditional Rulers for Condemning Attack on Troops

The Headquarters of 82 Division Nigerian Army has commended the Ezeagu Council of Traditional Rulers for condemning the recent attack on military personnel at Imezi Owa community in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State.

According to a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director,Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan Ayeni, the traditional rulers, in a communique issued on May 8, strongly denounced the attack carried out against troops of Sector 1, Operation UDO KA on May 6, 2026.

The Army said the communique, signed by HRH Emmanuel Anichebe and HRH Rapheal Okolo, aligned with the military’s earlier position that troops successfully repelled the assault by suspected terrorists.

The traditional rulers reportedly expressed concern over the incident, called for a thorough investigation, and urged residents of Ezeagu to continue supporting the Nigerian Army, Police, and other security agencies in efforts to tackle insecurity in the area.

They also commended the Enugu State Government for its commitment to protecting lives and property, while stressing that lasting peace could only be achieved through collaboration among traditional institutions, government, and security agencies.

The 82 Division described the stance of the traditional rulers as a strong demonstration of effective civil-military relations and support for peace and stability in the South-East.

The Army further called on residents of Ezeagu and neighbouring communities to expose individuals providing hideouts and support for criminal elements, warning that such actions undermine security and development.

It added that the communique reinforced the military’s operational position and reflected growing cooperation between the Nigerian Army and community stakeholders in restoring peace across the region.

The Division assured the public that no life was lost during the incident, while injured personnel were receiving medical treatment.

It also stated that Operation EASTERN SANITY would continue targeting terrorist infrastructure and criminal networks in the South-East to sustain the peace already achieved in the region.

The Army urged law-abiding citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, while resisting attempts by criminal elements and their sympathisers to spread misinformation capable of undermining public confidence in the military.
