Military intensify offensive against Terrorist in North West Nigeria

Three terrorist have been killed by troops of Operation Fansan Yamma during intensified military operations in north-west Nigeria.

According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, acting deputy director of army public relations for 8 Division, the offensive targeted armed groups operating in Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states, with the aim of protecting communities and disrupting their activities.

The army said the three were killed during an operation in the Magonho Forest in Sokoto State on 25 March, where troops also recovered AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.

In Zamfara State, soldiers carried out an ambush along the Gada Maya–Makakari road, killing two suspected fighters and forcing others to flee. Weapons, ammunition, communication devices and a motorcycle were seized during theoperation.

The military added that gunmen later attempted a retaliatory attack on Kaida village, accusing residents of collaborating with security forces, but troops responded swiftly, killing another attacker and recovering an additional rifle.

In a separate operation in Dutsi village, in Zurmi Local Government Area, troops acting on intelligence conducted a clearance mission, forcing suspected militants to abandon weapons and ammunition as they retreated.

Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, soldiers responding to reports of armed group activity in Shanga Local Government Area were ambushed near Giron Masa community. The army said reinforcements had been deployed and efforts were ongoing to track down those involved.

The military says it will continue operations aimed at degrading armed groups and improving security across the region.
