Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have rescued Mrs Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, from bandits’ captivity after weeks in abduction.
Mrs Abubakar was kidnapped alongside her husband, who was later killed by the assailants, during an attack in Katsina State.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the rescue followed intensified search-and-rescue operations by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA.
The military said troops tracked the bandits to Tunga Village, where contact was made with the criminal group during ongoing offensive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist and bandit networks in the area.
During the encounter, the bandits allegedly shot Mrs Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing under pressure from advancing troops.
She was immediately evacuated to a military hospital and is currently receiving treatment. The Armed Forces said she is responding positively to medical care.
The military leadership reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring her full recovery and providing support to her family.
It also pledged to sustain operations to track down those responsible for the abduction and other criminal activities, while intensifying efforts to eliminate terrorist and bandit threats in Katsina State and across the country.
