The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says it has destroyed a terrorist enclave and killed several fighters during precision airstrikes in Borno State as part of ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.
In a press release signed by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF said the strikes were carried out on 10 July by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI at Yaganari in the Gezuwa general area of Borno State.
The statement said the operation followed credible intelligence indicating renewed terrorist activities and the concentration of fighters in the area. Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions subsequently confirmed the location of terrorist structures and logistics hubs before they were targeted in a series of precision airstrikes.
According to the Air Force, the operation destroyed terrorist infrastructure and neutralised several fighters, further degrading the group’s ability to move freely and regroup.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the personnel involved in the operation for their professionalism.
He said the Nigerian Air Force would continue to conduct sustained offensive operations alongside ground troops to disrupt and destroy terrorist groups wherever they operate.
“The Nigerian Air Force will continue to deliver decisive air power in concert with surface forces to hunt down, disrupt and destroy terrorist elements wherever they may seek refuge,” the statement quoted him as saying.
Air Marshal Aneke added that the Armed Forces remained committed to consolidating recent gains in the country’s counter-terrorism campaign.
