A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) C-130 transport aircraft has safely arrived in Banjul, The Gambia, after continuing its ferry flight to Portugal for scheduled depot maintenance. The aircraft had earlier made a precautionary landing during the journey but was cleared to proceed following standard safety checks.
In a statement signed by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the NAF said the aircraft followed an updated flight plan through Accra and is expected to continue via Casablanca before arriving in Portugal. The service confirmed that all personnel on board are safe and that the aircraft remains fully serviceable.
The Air Force explained that ferry flights for maintenance routinely operate through designated airfields, with movements spaced to meet international aviation safety requirements. The statement also acknowledged the support provided by authorities in Ghana, The Gambia and other overflown countries.

Recall that the precautionary landing followed reports that the aircraft diverted from its original route after a technical concern was identified earlier in the flight. Aviation safety protocols permit such diversions to the nearest suitable airport to safeguard crew and equipment, and the NAF said this is standard practice.
In recent weeks, the aircraft and its crew were briefly held in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso after the initial landing, drawing regional attention and diplomatic engagement. They were subsequently released and allowed to resume the mission.
The NAF thanked Nigerians for their concern and reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and safety in all operations.
