The Chief of Air Staff has commissioned series of new facilities at its Kaduna base as part of efforts to prepare personnel for the operation of incoming advanced aircraft.
In a statement issued by the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, said the projects—commissioned on 13 February—form part of a broader drive to equip the next generation of pilots with the skills required to operate modern platforms. He described the completion of new student pilots’ quarters as a “major step” in strengthening training and operational readiness.

Air Marshal Aneke said the developments reflect his broader command philosophy of building a highly motivated and mission-ready force. He also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as sustained support to national security, citing recent defence cooperation with Türkiye for the acquisition of advanced helicopters and unmanned aerial systems.
The Air Chief further disclosed that engagements with partners in the United States, Italy and Türkiye are accelerating the procurement of new aircraft, including 24 M-346 fighter ground attack jets, 12 AH-1Z Viper attack helicopters and 10 AW-109 Trekker helicopters. These platforms, he said, would significantly enhance the Air Force’s capabilities across a range of operations.
The newly commissioned projects include six blocks of 12 one-bedroom student pilots’ quarters, a block of six three-bedroom flats initiated by the Ministry of Defence and completed by the NAF, and a 30-room studio apartment for personnel of the Military Training Centre.

Air Marshal Aneke urged personnel to maintain a strong culture of discipline and maintenance, stressing that the new facilities should serve current and future occupants with “comfort and dignity.” He acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor, Air Marshal HB Abubakar, as well as the Logistics Branch, contractors and the National Assembly for supporting the completion of the projects.
In his remarks, the Air Officer Commanding Air Training Command, Air Vice Marshal EP Efanga, said the facilities mark a major milestone in improving pilot training and personnel welfare, adding that they will be central to preparing pilots for the advanced platforms expected to enter service.
The Air Force reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and contributing to a safer and more secure Nigeria.
