The Nigerian Air Force has acknowledged reports suggesting that civilians were killed or injured during an air operation in Kurigi village, Kontokoro District of Mariga Local Government Area, Niger State, on Sunday. The force said it was deeply concerned by the allegations and stressed that protecting non-combatants remains central to its mission.
In a statement signed by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the NAF said it has steadily implemented its Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan over the past year, incorporating stricter procedures, improved training and additional safeguards designed to reduce the risk of civilian harm.
Following the latest reports, the Air Force has activated its Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation team to conduct what it described as an immediate and comprehensive inquiry. The NAF said the investigation would be guided by principles of accountability and transparency.
The force reiterated its commitment to take responsibility where necessary, strengthen its processes and ensure better protection for civilians, while continuing operations to defend the country with professionalism and restraint.
