Ahead of the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration, the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT, Commodore A Adams-Aliu, has paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Babatunde Osuolale Aremu Akiolu, at his palace in Isale Eko, Lagos.
The visit formed part of preparations for the anniversary events scheduled to hold from May 29 to June 4.

During the meeting, Commodore Adams-Aliu formally invited the traditional ruler to participate in the celebration and sought his royal support for the landmark event.
He described the anniversary as a significant milestone in the history of the Nigerian Navy, highlighting decades of commitment to maritime security, national defence, and regional stability.
The naval commander also stressed the importance of continued collaboration between the Navy and traditional institutions, particularly incoastal communities where maritime activities play a major role in economic development and security.

In his response, Oba Akiolu commended the Nigerian Navy for its efforts in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters and maintaining maritime safety.
The monarch expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed his support for initiatives aimed at strengthening security and fostering unity within the maritime environment.
The anniversary celebration is expected to feature parades, community outreach programmes, and an International Fleet Review at the Eko Atlantic waterfront to showcase the Navy’s operational achievements and historical legacy.
