The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has pledged support for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in its campaign against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking across the country.
According to a statement signed by the Director, Media and Advocacy of the agency, Femi Babafemi, the commitment was made when the NANS delegation, led by its President, Comrade Sola Oladoja, paid a visit to the NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja on April 21, 2026.
During the visit, the student leaders also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his re-election bid in 2027, citing policies targeted at youth development, including student loans, resolution of academic strikes and empowerment programmes.Oladoja commended the NDLEA leadership for ongoing operations against drug cartels and highlighted the impact of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign in tertiary institutions.

In his response, Marwa said the agency would continue to work with students to address drug abuse on campuses, noting its impact on health, academic performance and society.
He also explained that the Federal Government’s drug integrity test policy for students is aimed at early detection and rehabilitation, stressing that the initiative is preventive and not punitive.
The meeting ended with both parties agreeing to strengthen collaboration in tackling substance abuse in higher institutions across the country.
