NDLEA Officers Graduate in US as Marwa Pledges Stronger International Action Against Drug Trafficking

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to international cooperation in combating illicit drugs and transnational organised crime.

Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa made the remarks on Friday during the graduation ceremony of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officers at the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Training Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Speaking at the event, Marwa called for a strengthened global offensive against organised criminal networks, noting that their growing sophistication demands a coordinated and intelligence-driven response across borders. He dedicated the ceremony to officers of the NDLEA Special Investigations Unit who lost their lives in the line of duty, praising them as heroes whosesacrifice continues to inspire law enforcement personnel worldwide.

The training, which brought together elite officers from Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya, focused on enhancing skills in intelligence gathering, investigation, and operational response to drug trafficking and organised crime. Marwa said the programme’s motto—“Different nations, shared duty, one fight”—reflected the collective responsibility of partner nations to disrupt criminal networks operating across borders.

He urged the graduating officers to apply the skills gained with integrity, professionalism and courage in their home countries, while reaffirming Nigeria’s gratitude to the DEA, the US Department of Justice, and instructors for their continued mentorship and partnership. Marwa added that the graduation marked not an end but a renewed responsibility for officers to protect vulnerable communities and uphold the highest standards inthe fight against drugs and organised crime.
