Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been crowned champions of Africa for a record-extending 10th time following a dramatic 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday.

Justin Madugu’s side came into the clash looking to avenge their semi-final loss to the North Africans in the 2024 edition, and despite a shaky first half, the Falcons pulled off a spirited comeback to reclaim the continental crown.

Morocco took the lead in the 13th minute after a loose ball fell kindly to the tournament’s top scorer, Ghizlane Chebbak, who fired past Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 28th minute when Mssoudy picked up the ball at the edge of the box and drove a low left-footed effort into the bottom corner.

Nigeria responded in the second half, piling on the pressure. Their efforts paid off in the 63rd minute when Ijamilusi Folashade’s cross struck the arm of Moroccan defender Nouhaila Benzina. Chinaza Okoronkwo stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to pull one back for the Falcons.

Eight minutes later, Okoronkwo turned provider, charging down the right wing before squaring the ball for Ijamilusi to tap home the equalizer and bring Nigeria back into the game.

A decisive third goal sealed the comeback for Nigeria, ensuring they lifted their 10th WAFCON title and further cemented their dominance in African women’s football.
