Nigeria Customs Seeks Stakeholder Support for National Single Window Project

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has called on key players in the aviation and maritime sectors to support the rollout of the National Single Window (NSW), a digital platform aimed at simplifying trade and improving cargo clearance in the country.

Speaking at a meeting with airline and shipping line operators in Abuja on 4 March 2026, the Comptroller-General of Customs said cooperation from stakeholders would be crucial to the success of the initiative. According to the Service, the federal government has directed Customs to lead the implementation of the system as part of efforts to modernise Nigeria’s trade processes and strengthen its role in global commerce.

The Comptroller-General said structures werebeing put in place to ensure a smooth transition to the new system, including the creation of a help desk staffed with trained personnel to handle operational challenges during the rollout.

At an earlier awareness programme held on 3 March, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of ICT and Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin, described the National Single Window as a major step in Customs’ ongoing digital transformation. She said the Service had been working for months to prepare the framework and ensure it reflects operational realities while improving efficiency in trade documentation and cargo clearance.

The Director of the NSW Project, Tola Fakolade, also highlighted the role of Customs in the project, noting that the agency remains the key stakeholder in its implementation. The National Single Window is expected to streamline trade procedures, improve coordination amonggovernment agencies, and boost revenue generation.
