The Nigeria Customs Service has strengthened its collaboration with the World Customs Organisation as part of efforts to improve transparency and integrity in its operations.
In a statement signed by Abdullahi Maiwada, National Public Relations Officer for the Comptroller-General of Customs, the service said the move followed a high-level meeting held at the organisation’s headquarters in Brussels on 23 March during a working visit by the Comptroller-General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

Customs officials said discussions focused on ongoing anti-corruption initiatives, including integrity training, new operating procedures and plans for a risk assessment exercise in 2026.
The World Customs Organisation’s Anti-Corruption and Integrity Promotion team commended Nigeria Customs for its participation in a global integrity survey and for approving the publication of its results.
Officials say the findings reflect ongoing reforms within the service, including improvements in audit processes, valuation systems and the introduction of a voluntary disclosure framework under the Nigeria Customs Service Act.

The Comptroller-General reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening integrity and maintaining international best practices in customs administration.
Both sides also agreed on further steps, including publishing survey results, establishing a dedicated implementation team and integrating recommendations into customs operations.

In a separate meeting, Mr Adeniyi also held talks with the World Customs Organisation’s Secretary-General, Ian Saunders, on broader policy and council activities.
