The Nigerian Navy, in collaboration with a delegation from the Egyptian Navy Special Forces Brigade, has advanced its indigenous shipbuilding capacity and maritime special operations capability through a joint engagement under an ongoing cross-attachment programme.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Egyptian delegation was hosted at Naval Dockyard Limited in Lagos, where they were briefed on ship design, construction and maintenance activities. The visit also included technical discussions and guided tours of key facilities, enabling both navies to exchange knowledge on indigenous shipbuilding and sustainment.

The delegation also participated in joint training exercises with the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, focusing on maritime interdiction, Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS), and hostage rescue operations. The drills featured simulatedtactical scenarios, coordinated insertions, and real-time operational exercises, followed by debrief sessions to share insights and best practices.

The Nigerian Navy said the engagement demonstrates its commitment to building a technologically capable and combat-ready force through strategic partnerships and capacity development. It noted that such collaborations are critical to enhancing operational effectiveness and strengthening maritime security.
The initiative aligns with the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, to deepen indigenous capabilities and defence diplomacy. The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime interests and fostering regional cooperation.
