The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has marked this year’s International Women’s Day with a call to strengthen gender equality and the protection of women’s rights within the organisation.
The event, held on 6 March at the NIS headquarters in Abuja, was themed “Rights. Justice. Action: Strengthening Gender Mainstreaming in the Nigeria Immigration Service.”
According to a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Controller of Immigration Akinlabi Akinlabi, the commemoration brought together representatives from the Ministry of Interior, other security agencies, the Immigration Officers’ Wives Association (IMMOWA), and development partners.

Participants delivered goodwill messages highlighting the importance of promoting gender equality and strengthening the rights of women and girls across institutions.
Guest speakers from UN Women and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development also made presentations, sharing insights on advancing gender inclusion, justice and equal participation within public institutions.
The immigration service said the event forms part of its broader commitment to gender mainstreaming as one of its institutional priorities.
